red, red wine

Food and drink really were my enemies last week. When did I finally develop this complicated relationship with food? *sigh* Probably when I finally "grew up", passed 30, and started working in a real job that forces me to do little but sit in front of a computer all day.

Candy was my enemy last week. The Easter Bunny was rather good to me this year. I got some rather delicious jelly beans, some non-pariel type gummi bits, some creme-filled eggs, and a chocolate bunny. In a true sign of marital fidelity, Mrs. Geek got almost exactly the same thing (minus the non-pariel-like gummi bits). The candy is absolutely delicious, but I find that I've been reaching for it far too often to having any pretensions about dieting in the last 10 days. No, I have been not watching what I eat lately and it is bugging me.

My other gastronomical difficulty regarded my level of alcohol intake. Again, this is not good for the diet... but that isn't the point. No, this time I'm talking about basic health and comfort. Mrs. Geek and I went to a "horizontal Cabernet tasting" hosted by some friends on Saturday night. I think we opened around 16 bottles of Cabernet during the course of the evening for about 11 people, a couple of whom were not drinking. I always remember the adage about mixing different types of alcohol: "beer before liquor, never sicker." There should be one about drinking lots of Cabernet as well, because I got very sick afterward. My body spent about 10 hours trying a couple of dramatic methods to rid myself of whatever it perceived to be toxic in the Cabernet. I'm trying to remember the last time drinking made me that sick... it's been several years, certainly.

Things have been relatively good otherwise. Certainly all the food and drink have been delicious... when I haven't had too much to make me sick. I need to practice a slightly more ascetic approach though. There are more pounds to be lost.
