Here are some blown glass Christmas ornaments that Mrs. Geek and I picked up during our trip to the Land Of My Birth over the holidays.
We picked up five of the seven (the top row plus the bottom row far left) during an afternoon excursion with my Mom. We went to the charming historic district of a small town near the one where my parents live. We had lunch at a little bistro and then ducked into a store specializing in Christmas ornaments two doors down. Mrs. Geek and I had a great time trying to pick out which ornaments to buy. It was hard to choose; the store had a full line of Christopher Radko and Old World Christmas ornaments. They even had several "theme" trees and displays setup in the store: one consisted of solely of hunting and fishing-related ornaments, another tree had an Irish American theme, and one display had Coca Cola memorabilia oraments in it.
My Mom got a huge kick out of seeing me shop. Evidently my Dad hates to shop for absolutely anything, except possibly for postcards when we are on vacation. She found the willingness of one of the Geek family men to shop for something specialized like Christmas ornaments to be a big surprise.
I'm going to remember that afternoon for quite a while, just based on my Mom's reaction.
