Things are about to get a little lonely here at Company O. My co-workers in my department are leaving like rats deserting a sinking ship. I found out that two more are leaving today. I can't say that I necessarily blame them. There are some morale issues in this division of Company O. and those issues have not been addressed. I'm not saying that it is like some kind of Khmer Rouge killing field or something... it's just that when people see better opportunity, there isn't much that keeps them from taking it.
This is forcing me to rethink my career goals. I've been at Company O. in the same division for about five and a half years. That's long enough. I've known it is time to consider doing something different for a while now. I put serious consideration of change off for a while now because it wasn't the right time. Too much else was changing for either me, or Mrs. Geek, or both. In the last four years, Mrs. Geek has changed what she teaches twice, she's changed jobs, we've met, we've gotten engaged, and we've gotten married. We needed a little time for the dust to settle before thinking of things like changing jobs, buying property, or having kids.
This is one more sign to me that the time to let dust settle is over. The need for change is in the air.
